Just during today alone, more than 1,600 flights were cancelled, with over 3,400 cancelled on Christmas Eve.
On the roads, some folks who chose to drive have found themselves physically stranded, due to the pile-ups of snow. In some of the worst case scenarios, members of the National Guard get called in to assist individuals trapped in vehicles.
Staying safe
The importance of staying safe this Christmas cannot be stressed enough. Individuals in communities adversely impacted by winter storms would do well to heed the safety warnings and advice from officials.

Whether this means staying off the roads or conserving energy, it is a good idea for all involved. This is not the first Christmas to bring about nasty weather, travel delays, or power outages. It is unlikely to be the last.
Nevertheless, each person can still do their part to ensure they remain safe this holiday season.
