Trump demands Iran destroy nuclear dust under IAEA eyes By Tylor Brooks | USA Herald

President Donald Trump declared that any potential peace agreement hinges on the total elimination of Iran's highly enriched uranium, labeling the materials "nuclear dust." The high-stakes mandate arrives as a fragile ceasefire between Washington and Tehran faces immense strain. Despite ongoing secret negotiations in Qatar, both military actions on the ground and heated rhetoric from top officials threaten to collapse the delicate diplomatic progress.

Red lines drawn over nuclear stockpiles

The American commander-in-chief utilized social media to outline the absolute prerequisites for a finalized pact. Trump insisted that the Islamic Republic must hand over its enriched atomic materials directly to the United States for destruction, or dismantle them locally. If neutralized inside Iranian borders, the process must happen under the strict supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) or an equivalent global watchdog.

Administration officials confirmed that Iranian negotiators have agreed to the disposal concept in principle. However, the precise mechanisms and verification protocols remain a major sticking point. Tehran has publicly minimized the likelihood of an immediate signing, explicitly noting that the current draft framework does not include immediate concessions regarding its core atomic infrastructure.

Military strikes jeopardize fragile ceasefire

While diplomats haggle over text in Doha, the conflict continues to simmer. The U.S. Central Command confirmed it executed "self-defense strikes" against missile launch facilities and mining vessels in southern Iran. American military leaders stated that the maneuvers were necessary to protect deployed personnel, maintaining that U.S. forces are practicing extreme restraint to preserve the standing truce.

Concurrently, Tehran claimed a significant military escalation of its own. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced it successfully shot down an American MQ-9 Reaper drone over the Persian Gulf. Iranian air defense units reportedly targeted a second surveillance aircraft and an F-35 fighter jet during the same airspace dispute, though they omitted specific timestamps for the engagements.

Global energy markets react to shipping ultimatum

The core economic focus of the negotiations remains the vital Strait of Hormuz shipping lane. Secretary of State Marco Rubio issued a stern warning from India, stating the blockaded waterway will return to international commerce "one way or the other." Rubio labeled the current Iranian blockade illegal, unsustainable, and entirely unacceptable to the global community.

The pressure surrounding the shipping channels triggered immediate ripple effects across international markets:

  • Crude collapse: Brent crude futures plummeted nearly 7 percent, dropping down to $96.30 per barrel.

  • The 30-day rule: The current draft treaty mandates that Iran must restore normal maritime traffic within a month of signing.

  • Sovereignty clash: Iranian state media continues to insist that the waterway will remain under strict domestic management even if an accord is finalized.

Hidden leaders and escalating proxy fronts

The diplomatic dance is further complicated by the political reality inside Iran. Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei issued a rare written holiday address asserting that Middle Eastern nations would no longer act as protective shields for American military bases. U.S. intelligence reports indicate Khamenei remains isolated in an undisclosed bunker, utilizing a complex network of physical couriers to communicate after sustaining injuries in earlier airstrikes.

Meanwhile, regional proxy violence shows no signs of slowing down. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered a massive acceleration of military operations in Lebanon, aiming to decisively crush Hezbollah. Intense overnight bombardments struck the Bekaa Valley and towns near Tyre, killing dozens of people. The escalated offensive directly follows accusations that Hezbollah violated the truce by utilizing advanced fiber-optic drones to strike northern Israeli security outposts.

The next few days will determine whether the comprehensive document under review in Qatar transforms into a lasting treaty or if the region plunges back into open warfare. Rubio noted that while a deal is still viable, it will require intense back-and-forth negotiations to iron out the exact wording.
