In a nutshell, Republicans and others on the right-wing believe that this impeachment inquiry will backfire. Members of the Trump 2020 re-election campaign have already commenced running various ads; the message in these ads states that the impeachment inquiry is an offshoot of Democrats knowing that they cannot beat Trump in 2020.
Since the impeachment inquiry, virtually all of the 2020 Democrats have come out in favor of impeachment. Beto O’Rourke even called on Trump to resign from office, claiming that a Trump resignation would unify America. Tulsi Gabbard, a 2020 Democrat who previously opposed impeachment, has now vocalized her support for it as well.
