The order states, It shall be the policy of the United States to remove any undue obstacle preventing current or retired Federal law enforcement officers from carrying a concealed firearm as allowed under the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act of 2004, as amended (18 U.S.C. 926B, 926C)

Esther Salas, a federal judge from NJ, mourned the loss of her son after he was fatally shot by a gunman who located their home based on information online. Her husband was left wounded, unable to help save his son.

Justice Salas spoke of the crime, “Information from the internet allowed this sick and depraved human being to find and target us… there was nothing we could do to stop it and that is unacceptable.”

The justification for the policy written into the order stated, “Judges, prosecutors, and law enforcement officers should not have to choose between pubic service and subjecting themselves and their families to danger.”

Additionally, the order applies to federal prosecutors who feel at risk while performing their government duties. The policy provides, “special deputation as a Deputy United States Marshall,” which means when prosecutors feel at risk, they will have the same protections granted to law enforcement.
