Furthermore, the sheriff said Sgt. Ron Helus was among those killed in the mass shooting. According to him, Helus was the first responder and was hit with multiple gunshots. He was later declared dead at a hospital. Helus leaves a wife and a son.
“He died a hero because he went in to save lives,” said the Sheriff to Helus’ wife.
On Thursday, a procession carried the body of Helus from Los Robles Hospital to the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office.
In a statement, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, said, “Ron’s selfless, heroic actions will never be forgotten. Our hearts go out to his family and friends during this difficult time.”
