Twitter Blue is the social media platform’s subscription-based service which allows users to read ad-free articles from over 300 publishers. The article publishers were reimbursed by Twitter for lost advertisement costs on a per-page basis. And in return the Blue users who subscribed didn’t have to view any ads in this content.
The ad-free article read disappeared overnight.
Subscribers used to have access to some other interesting perks. They were able to enable tweet editing features, have availability of the most popular links on the platform and had a unique display picture style on their accounts.
It appears the SpaceX and Tesla CEO has big plans for transforming the program. He has his team working on modifying the account verification system on Twitter. And that soon may only be available to users who subscribe. And agree to pay a monthly fee.
The team may be aiming to replace the ad-free content with articles and blogs that open up an ad revenue stream to Twitter. It has been reported that Musk is trying to merge account verification with Twitter Blue in order to defeat the bots and trolls on the social media site.
