To date, tens of millions of people use Uber Eats. The food delivery service is available in multiple countries, allowing people to get delicious meals from restaurants sent right to their doorsteps. Over the years, the platform has even grown to add convenience and grocery stores to its mobile app. This allows folks to shop for toiletries, food items, and other essentials without ever leaving their homes. Uber Eats next comes with a series of delivery options. Customers can opt to have their restaurant food or other orders physically handed to them by the delivery driver. They can also leave a notice via app for the order to be placed on their doorstep. Given the rise of remote work and people seeking more convenience in their lives, it's safe to say Uber Eats isn't going anywhere. However, in the wake of Hurricane Milton slamming Florida, service from the delivery app is undergoing lags in certain parts of the state.

What's causing issues with Uber Eats in Florida?

This week, Hurricane Milton tore through the Sunshine State, leaving a ton of destruction in its wake. Some Floridians were fortunate enough to not reside in evacuation zones or flood zones. These folks only experienced heavy rain and winds during Wednesday and Thursday. However, a lot of other people took harder hits from the storm. Millions of residents lost power after Thursday. Some had their homes or businesses completely destroyed due to Milton's intense winds and rain. The arrival of this storm is a double whammy too, considering that many Floridians were already undergoing recovery efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. Given the damages, certain restaurants, stores, and other businesses with a presence on Uber Eats aren't currently open. For those that are, they aren't all operating at full capacity. As such, Floridians in cities or counties that took extensive hits from Milton may struggle to receive food deliveries. As recovery efforts continue in the days ahead, Uber Eats fans will have to keep checking the app to see which businesses are available. Service from the Uber rideshare app could also come with delays, seeing as drivers may be trying to recover from Milton, rather than pick up riders.
