The Uvalde school district, while acknowledging the indictments, expressed condolences to the families affected by the shooting.
The indictments arrive more than two years after the horrific event that claimed the lives of 21 people.
Legal Fallout Continues
Arredondo has faced significant public criticism for his role during the incident. In an interview with the Texas Tribune, he stated that he “never considered himself the scene’s incident commander.”
Despite this, he was fired by the Uvalde school board in August 2022. Last month, Arredondo claimed he had been “scapegoated” for the failed law enforcement response.
Currently, Arredondo and Adrian Gonzales are the only individuals charged for their actions that day. There were nearly 400 law enforcement officers who responded but delayed entering the school.
Settlement with Victims’ Families
In May, just days before the two-year anniversary of the shooting, the families of the victims reached a $2 million settlement with the city of Uvalde.
