“We have, beyond one-off consular visits, continued to insist that Russian authorities allow consistent, timely consular access to all U.S. citizens who are detained in Russia.”

Price said on Tuesday. “That includes those who are in pre-trial detention, including Brittney Griner. We are in frequent contact with her legal team, with her broader network, and we have no higher priority than the safety and security of Americans, including those who are incarcerated in Russia.”

Basketball legend Lisa Leslie, who played for the Los Angeles Sparks from 1997 to 2009, said the Basketball community is concerned. And they had been cautioned not to make a “big fuss” about the arrest.

On the “I AM ATHLETE” podcast Leslie told sports stars Brandon Marshall, Chad Ochocinco, and Chantel Tremitiere about her concerns.

“So, what we were told, and again, this is all sort of passed along through hearsay. What we were told was to not make a big fuss about it so they could not use her as a pawn, so to speak, in this situation in the war. So, to make it like it’s not that important, or don’t make it like ‘Free Brittney’ and we start this campaign, and it becomes something they can use,” Leslie said.
