The victims have been identified as 21-year-old Allyson Nohelia Navarro-Salazar, a resident of Gridley, and an unnamed baby from the same town.

The collision occurred on Highway 99 and Paseo Road, a short distance south of Live Oak, as confirmed by investigators.

The catastrophic event transpired shortly after 6:30 p.m., shattering the tranquility of the area.

Prior to the fatal crash, reports indicate that the suspected individual responsible for the tragedy had already been involved in a separate collision in Live Oak.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Yuba-Sutter division, the suspect, who was under the influence of intoxicants, fled the scene before emergency responders arrived.

Recklessly heading southbound on Highway 99, just north of Paseo Road, the suspect’s exact speed remains unknown.
