“Stinnett was discovered by her mother, Becky Harper, in a pool of blood about an hour after the assault. Harper immediately called 911, describing the wounds inflicted upon her daughter as appearing as if her ‘stomach exploded.'” The young mother-to-be had been gruesomely torn open, and the baby in her womb, stolen. All that remained was a brutalized shell of a body.
Lisa Montgomery was arrested the next day at her farmhouse. The day-old infant, Victoria Jo Stinnett, was reunited with her grieving family who was still reeling from the vicious murder of young Bobbi Jo.
Montgomery was tried and convicted for “kidnapping resulting in death” under the Federal Kidnapping Act. After being found guilty of murder, an attempted insanity plea being refuted and dismissed, the jury recommended the death penalty for the heinous crime.
Fast forward to the wee hours of Wednesday morning. Montgomery was asked if she had any last words. She replied “no” in a flat and emotionless voice.
Kelley Henry, Montgomery’s attorney, did not miss the opportunity to accuse President Donald J. Trump as having a hand in an unjustified death, stating the execution was just the result of “the craven blood lust of a failed administration.” This is despite her own failed attempts to petition for a stay of execution until after President-elect Joe Biden was inaugurated, as he is expected to discontinue federal executions after he takes office, no matter how grievous and horrific the offense.
