An affidavit revealed Armstrong had trained for the escape in her cell, faking a leg injury to avoid leg restraints. During the chase, she removed her prison-issue pants to reveal thermal pants underneath and managed to free one hand from her cuffs.

The Murder Case Unfolds

Prosecutors presented compelling evidence at Armstrong’s trial, including her tracking of Wilson’s social media and using the Strava app’s GPS to locate her.

Armstrong had also accessed Strickland’s email and Instagram accounts, monitoring his interactions with Wilson. Despite her defense team’s arguments that the evidence was circumstantial, Armstrong’s DNA was found on Wilson’s bike at the crime scene. Receipts for her plastic surgery in Costa Rica were also discovered.

On November 16, 2023, after less than two hours of deliberation, the jury found Armstrong guilty of first-degree murder.

She was sentenced to 90 years in prison, which she is now serving in a women’s prison in Central Texas. The case of the Yoga Teacher killer was marked by its dramatic twists and two desperate bids for freedom.
