A fast-moving police investigation tied to an Evanston high shooting led authorities to place a local high school under a precautionary lockdown Thursday, after gunfire erupted nearby and sent shockwaves through the community.

Gunfire Reported Near Mason Park

Police in Evanston said the shooting occurred at Mason Park, located at the intersection of Church Street and Dodge Avenue. The incident quickly triggered an emergency response as officers secured the area and began searching for answers in the aftermath of the gunfire.

Like a sudden crack splitting an otherwise routine day, the report of shots fired prompted immediate concern across the surrounding neighborhood.

School Placed Under Precautionary Lockdown

In response to the developing situation, Evanston Township High School was placed under a precautionary soft lockdown as a safety measure.

Authorities said the decision was made out of caution while police worked to assess any possible connection between the shooting and nearby locations. The lockdown was intended to keep students and staff secure while officers managed the unfolding investigation.

No Injuries Reported, Area Avoided by Police Order

Police confirmed that no injuries had been reported at Mason Park following the shooting. Despite the lack of casualties, officers urged residents to stay away from the area as the investigation continued.

The scene remained active as law enforcement worked to gather evidence and determine what led to the gunfire in a normally quiet part of the city.

Investigation Continues as Community Awaits Answers

Authorities have not released additional details about suspects or motive. The investigation remains ongoing, with police maintaining a visible presence near the park and surrounding streets.

As the situation developed, officials continued to emphasize caution, treating the area as an active scene while working to ensure public safety.
