A late-night lake party near Oklahoma City turned into a chaotic mass shooting scene Sunday, sending at least 12 people to hospitals and triggering a sprawling manhunt as police race to identify the gunmen behind the attack.

The shooting unfolded around 9 p.m. CT at a campground near Arcadia Lake, roughly 13 miles north of Oklahoma City, during what authorities described as a gathering of young adults. What began as a recreational weekend outing quickly escalated into panic, injuries, and an urgent emergency response.

Investigation Underway With Suspects Still at Large

Police confirmed that no suspects are currently in custody. However, officials emphasized there is no evidence of an ongoing danger to the public as the search continues.

The Edmond Police Department is leading the investigation with support from Oklahoma City police, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, and the Edmond Fire Department. Officers say they are working across the metro area interviewing victims and witnesses in an effort to reconstruct what happened.

“We’re kind of all over the metro speaking with victims and witnesses,” Ward said in the late-night press conference.

Authorities say the scene quickly overwhelmed first responders after multiple emergency calls came in from the lake area.

Victims Flood Local Hospitals in Rapid Response

At least 12 people were transported to area hospitals following the shooting. Three victims were taken to Integris Health Edmond Hospital, while nine others were admitted to Integris Health Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City, according to a hospital system spokesperson.

Police initially reported at least 10 victims were taken to hospitals in various conditions, warning that number could rise as some victims arrived by private vehicles.

Officials have not released the ages of those injured, but described the gathering as a large party attended primarily by young adults.

Arcadia Lake, located in Edmond, a city of roughly 100,000 residents, is a popular destination for camping, fishing, picnicking, and water recreation. The normally quiet outdoor area has now become the center of an urgent criminal investigation.

“This is obviously a very terrifying situation, and we understand the concern from the public and those involved, and we are working extremely hard to find these suspects and help these victims,” Ward told reporters at the scene.

As investigators continue searching for answers, authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward while hospital staff treat victims caught in one of the region’s most alarming recent outbreaks of gun violence.
