A Fishers woman lost more than $200,000 after falling victim to an elaborate fraud operation that used fake Apple tech support claims, counterfeit federal documents, and aggressive psychological pressure tactics to manipulate her into sending money through wire transfers and cryptocurrency.

Court records describe a highly coordinated scheme that unraveled only after police tracked a suspect allegedly arriving in Indiana to collect cash directly from the victim.

How the $200,000 Scam Unfolded

Scammers first contacted the woman while posing as Apple tech support employees. They later escalated their deception by impersonating federal law enforcement officers, telling her she was allegedly tied to money laundering and possession of child sexual abuse material investigations.

To make the threats more convincing, the suspects sent forged documents, including a fake non-disclosure agreement and a fabricated federal arrest warrant.

Fishers Police Department attempted to verify the warrant and found no record of it at any level of government.

The victim ultimately sent more than $200,000 through a combination of fraudulent wire transfers and cryptocurrency transactions.

Court filings show the victim kept detailed “contemporaneous notes” of her interactions with the scammers, which became critical evidence for investigators.

Police Confirm Organized Fraud Operation

Investigators quickly determined the case was not isolated or amateur.

“it is evident that (the victim) was subjected to an organized scheme involving fraud, impersonation of federal officials, intimidation and financial exploitation.”

Charges Filed Against Suspect

Authorities identified 21-year-old Anmolpreet Singh as one of the individuals involved.

He faces three Level 5 felony charges, including fraud involving losses between $50,000 and $100,000, fraud as part of a scheme to obtain property, and theft involving more than $50,000.

If convicted, Singh could face up to six years in prison and fines reaching $10,000.

The Trap: A Fake Cash Pickup in Indiana

Police say Singh arranged to personally collect $50,000 from the victim in Indiana.

Initially scheduled for May 1, the meeting was postponed to May 4.

Investigators monitored Singh closely as he traveled toward Fishers, using surveillance tools including Flock camera systems and drone footage.

He sent the victim photos showing his progress along Interstate 94 and later Interstate 65, suggesting he was closing in on her location.

Police determined the vehicle was likely a blue 2022 Toyota Corolla.

A license plate check revealed the car did not belong to Singh.

Surveillance Behavior Raises Red Flags

As Singh approached the neighborhood, investigators observed what they described as counter surveillance driving patterns.

He reportedly made repeated slow passes through the subdivision, changed directions frequently, stopped unexpectedly, and even activated hazard lights multiple times.

Police said he briefly parked at a clubhouse before continuing to circle the area for nearly an hour.

Drone footage later confirmed he spent about 55 minutes driving through the neighborhood before officers intervened.

Authorities ultimately stopped the vehicle near Campus Parkway and Bergen Boulevard around 5:42 p.m. and detained Singh.

Inside the car, officers found a New York driver’s license, two cell phones, and a $5 bill that matched a photo previously sent to the victim as part of the scam’s identification process.

Police Describe High-Level Criminal Tactics

Investigators believe Singh may be part of a larger fraud network operating across state lines.

“Organized criminal groups engaged in financial exploitation and fraud schemes frequently employ layered counter-surveillance techniques, compartmentalized communication methods, concealed communication service providers and controlled exchange procedures designed to avoid law enforcement detection, interception, and apprehension,” FPD personnel wrote in their affidavit. “Based on training and experience, these organizations commonly limit direct exposure between co-conspirators and intentionally structure exchanges in a manner intended to conceal the identity and involvement of individuals participating in the criminal operation.”

Authorities also linked Singh to encrypted communication tools, including a Proton email account and a Google Voice number, both commonly used to obscure identities.

Suspect’s Interview and Denial

During questioning, Singh told police he was in the area to visit a friend and claimed he had rented the vehicle through Turo after his personal car broke down while traveling from New York to Chicago.

He could not provide the friend’s address or identifying details.

When asked for rental documentation, Singh said he could not access it without his phone. Officers noted concern he might alter or delete digital evidence.

The interview ended after Singh requested an attorney.

Investigation Still Expanding

Police believe Singh did not act alone and may be tied to a wider international fraud network using layered communication systems and remote coordination to avoid detection.

As of now, no additional suspects have been publicly identified.

Court proceedings for Singh began Monday, as investigators continue working to trace the broader operation behind the $200,000 scam that targeted the Fishers victim.
