A 25-year-old woman from Alabama, Carlethia “Carlee” Nichole Russell, disappeared under mysterious circumstances after encountering a toddler wandering along a highway, however, she has now safely returned home, affirming police reports from Sunday.

The Alabama woman's missing status was established after she abruptly lost contact while on a phone call with a family member, post alerting authorities about a toddler walking alongside Interstate 459 South.

It was around 9:30 p.m. on Thursday when Russell, who had just clocked out from work and may have been returning home with some food, spotted the toddler near mile marker 11.

She immediately called 911 and paused her journey to check on the child, keeping a family member informed about the unfolding situation through a call.

Unfortunately, the line soon went dead but remained open, cutting the family member off from her communication.

Police Investigation and Clues

Upon reaching the scene, Hoover police found Russell's vehicle abandoned and some of her possessions scattered nearby, but the Alabama woman was missing, and there was no sign of the toddler she had reportedly seen.

Furthermore, Hoover police received no other reports concerning a missing child in the area.

A single eyewitness came forward, claiming to have noticed a grey vehicle near Russell's car and a light-skinned man standing outside it.

However, no additional details about the man or the vehicle have been forthcoming. Hoover police, at this point, are piecing together these jigsaw pieces while seeking more information.

The Alabama Woman Missing Returns Home

Relief washed over as the Hoover Police Department's emergency center received a call around 10:45 p.m. local time Saturday, stating that Russell had returned home.

Responding immediately, Hoover police accompanied by the Fire Department's medics, arrived at her residence.

The medics conducted a quick health check on Russell before she was taken to a local hospital for a more thorough evaluation.

Although information regarding her whereabouts during her disappearance remains unclear, authorities assure that further details will be revealed when available.

Community Reaction and Continued Investigation

Hoover Police Chief, Nicholas Derzis, expressed joy over the Alabama woman's safe return, stating, "We wanted her to come home safe and sound – and we’ll hope that’s what happened here. I couldn’t be more excited, and I hope the community feels the same way."

Russell's mysterious disappearance had sparked a frantic, two-day search across Hoover, a prominent suburb of Birmingham, with police even offering a $25,000 reward.

As Russell and her family take some time to recover from the ordeal, the investigation continues as the police aim to piece together the perplexing circumstances surrounding her disappearance.
