In a dramatic turn in the artificial intelligence race, Anthropic $900 billion valuation talks suggest the once-chasing startup may now be running neck-and-neck with industry titan OpenAI.

The five-year-old company, founded by former OpenAI executives, is in discussions with investors to raise fresh capital at a staggering $900 billion valuation, according to a person familiar with the matter. The talks remain ongoing, with no signed term sheet, and details are being closely guarded.

Anthropic declined to comment on the potential deal, which was first reported by Bloomberg.

A Rapid Climb in the AI Arms Race

The possible valuation would mark a meteoric rise for Anthropic, which was valued at $380 billion as recently as February. It would also surpass the $852 billion valuation reached by OpenAI in late March following a record-breaking $122 billion funding round.

That round drew massive backing from major players including Amazon, Nvidia, and SoftBank — underscoring the scale of capital flooding into the AI sector.

Claude Models Fuel Momentum

Anthropic’s ascent has been powered by its family of AI systems known as Claude. The company recently rolled out Claude Opus 4.7, calling it its most advanced general-use model to date.

But it was the earlier unveiling of Claude Mythos Preview that truly electrified the market. Designed with advanced cybersecurity capabilities, the model is currently limited to select organizations — a move that has only heightened intrigue and demand.

Mythos has sparked high-level discussions involving members of the Trump administration, top tech executives, and banking leaders, positioning it as a strategic asset in both commercial and national security contexts.

Compute Power Becomes the New Battleground

Behind the scenes, the race for dominance is increasingly defined by access to computing power. Like fuel to a rocket, massive compute capacity is essential to train and deploy next-generation AI systems.

Anthropic has moved aggressively on this front. The company recently secured a deal with Amazon that includes up to $25 billion in investment and access to as much as 5 gigawatts of compute capacity.

Additional agreements with Google and Broadcom will provide another 5 gigawatts of capacity, expected to come online next year. Google has also signaled plans to invest up to $40 billion in Anthropic.

Explosive Growth in Revenue

Anthropic’s financial trajectory mirrors its technological rise. The company reported reaching $30 billion in annualized revenue this month, a sharp jump from approximately $10 billion generated last year.

A key driver has been the success of its AI coding assistant, Claude Code, which has gained traction among developers and enterprises alike.
