Because Leon approved the Time Warner deal last month, Disney and Comcast sensed a green light in their bids for Fox. The courts have already approved Disney’s purchase of the company, should Fox agree to sell. If Fox does agree to a deal, Fox News and Sports will remain its own company, not owned by Disney.

Stephenson told media that the Time Warner dispute could harm Comcast’s chances of prevailing. AT&T owns DirecTV, a satellite giant, and Comcast is a major cable provider. He views the two companies as being in the same situation regarding antitrust law.

Stephenson stated that the bidding war for Fox could also affect the process. He pointed out that no other major companies were bidding for Time Warner. Two large entities competing for an asset could possibly affect the outcome.
