The primary season of the 2020 presidential election has encouraged various Democrat candidates to employ various means to boost their campaigns. Certain candidates are attempting to brand themselves as moderates; others are branding their progressive policies as "bold reform."

Making bold, inflammatory statements may get candidates in the press, but it doesn't do much for attracting support from voters. This is a lesson which 2020 Democrat Beto O'Rourke had to learn the hard way.

On Friday, O'Rourke officially announced the cancellation of his presidential campaign.

What You Need to Know About O'Rourke's Departure from the 2020 Race

Throughout his time as a presidential candidate, O'Rourke ran a mediocre campaign, at best. He consistently trailed behind other candidates; however, in the latter weeks of his bid for the presidency, O'Rourke gained attention in the press for his hardline leftist gun stances.

"Hell yes, we're gonna take your AR-15, your AK-47," he infamously declared during September's Democrat debate. These words later came back to bite him after various gun-loving Americans confronted him at his rallies and town halls.

O'Rourke then doubled down on his gun confiscation plans, even going as far as to talk about police-enforced, door-to-door gun grabs. Later, O'Rourke attempted to walk things back when asked about the use of AR-15s for hunting purposes.

However, after running out of campaign funds, O'Rourke took to social media and announced the end of his presidential campaign.

The former 2020 candidate then continued his statements by vowing that the Democrat Party will defeat President Trump next year.

Reactions to O'Rourke's Departure from the 2020 Race

In light of the manner in which O'Rourke ran his campaign, his departure prompted a variety of reactions. Many conservatives poked fun at O'Rourke, noting that his anti-gun rhetoric ultimately engendered his own political demise.

President Trump, himself, weighed in on the matter via Twitter. The president pointed out that O'Rourke's decision to drop out of the race came after the former Texas congressman declared himself as "born for this."
