Concerns about Election Hacking Continue to Increase

Earlier this week, members of the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) claimed that someone managed to gain unauthorized access to their emails. Right now, the breach is under an investigation. At this time, the authorities are also referring to the perpetrator as an “unknown entity.”

Robert Mueller’s Ongoing Russia Investigation

The ongoing Russia probe also serves as another viable segment of concerns regarding foreign interference in elections. Special counsel Robert Mueller is still looking into whether or not President Trump colluded with the Russian government in order to win the 2016 election. The president, for his part, has denied allegations of collusion; on multiple occasions, he has also dismissed the investigation as politically motivated and as a “hoax.”

Mueller’s investigation has resulted in multiple indictments. Earlier this year, 11 Russian officials faced charges of conspiracy to hack into various Democratic networks. Moreover, the president has strongly censured the DNC for facing the aforementioned breaches; Trump maintains that Republicans have stronger defenses in place to protect themselves from such hacks.
