Failure to critically address the situation at the Southern border is something which may hurt Democrats in the 2020 presidential election.

The Border Crisis in Present Day

To date, Border Patrol officials deal with some very real issues. Illegal immigration is still a serious problem; furthermore, officials at the Southern border maintain that their resources are facing strain as they struggle to deal with everything which is happening.

President Trump and Democrat leaders have ongoingly butted heads over the situation at the Southern border. Americans witnessed this during the 35-day government shutdown which took place between December 2018 and January 2019. The president subsequently attempted to negotiate with Democrats on effective border security; however, Democrats declined to bring anything to the table.
