Last week, Americans got to see Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and California Gov. Gavin Newsom go toe-to-toe with one another. The pair traded blows Thursday night on Fox News, with host Sean Hannity as the moderator for the 90-minute debate.

During this period, the two high-profile governors answered questions and blasted one another over immigration, guns, abortion, the 2024 presidential election, and more. In the aftermath of the debate, the DeSantis presidential campaign has used it to promote him as the effective leader this country needs.

Days after the debate, the Florida governor himself also continues to make clear why he believes Newsom and Newsom's agenda are so dangerous.

The latest from DeSantis on the California governor

On Friday, DeSantis campaigned in Prosperity, South Carolina, speaking with the state's voters. It was during this time that the Republican governor expressed how taken aback he was by Newsom using "bold-face lies" to get through last week's debate.

DeSantis torched his Californian counterpart as not just a liar, but also as someone who knows President Biden faces cognitive struggles, but won't publicly admit it for political reasons.

During his time in South Carolina, DeSantis also promised voters that as president, he'll lead the revival of the United States. Per the Florida governor, that means getting the job done, conducting himself in a becoming manner, and appropriately managing issues like immigration and education.

Americans will see the Florida governor front and center on Wednesday, December 6 for the Republican Party's fourth primary debate. With a narrowed down field since the last debate, DeSantis and former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley will likely garner the most attention.

As we all get closer to the Iowa caucuses, both DeSantis and Haley have increasingly started going after one another. Across the board, these two candidates remain billed as some of the most likely to secure the GOP nomination.

Polls have also shown DeSantis and Haley both leading Joe Biden in hypothetical matchups for next year's general election.

Interestingly enough, in the Florida governor's debate against Newsom last week, the latter said DeSantis should step aside to let Haley thwart Donald Trump's chances of winning the nomination.
