Amid increased domestic terror warnings, Capitol Police have created a new online portal for Congress members looking to increase their security detail during their travel to and from Washington.

Capitol Police and military will be stationed around the gated Capitol Complex, as well as at airports and the railroad terminal at Union Station.

“They will be in place to monitor as Members move throughout the airport,” Acting House Sergeant at Arms Timothy Blodgett wrote.

The House sergeant at arms encouraged lawmakers to establish relationships with local airport and Transportation Security Administration officials in their districts. Blodgett also instructed representatives and staff to inform these officials of any travel plans or perceived threats.

This week, the Department of Homeland Security used a federal system designed to warn all Americans about terrorist threats to the U.S. homeland, issued a warning that anger “fueled by false narratives,” especially unfounded claims about the 2020 presidential election, could lead some inside the country to launch attacks in the coming weeks.
