Thus far, a new chairman for the Florida Democrat Party has yet to step up. However, Diaz’s departure comes as many Democrats made their frustrations with him very well known.
Upon stepping into this leadership role, Diaz promised to improve the state of affairs for the Florida Democrat Party. Though last year only led to the party’s Democrats losing each significant statewide election.
What’s really causing these problems?
There was a time when Florida existed as a reliable purple state. Though since DeSantis’ first term as governor, the state has gotten increasingly red.
Many Republicans across the country moved to Florida, attracted by DeSantis’ leadership style on COVID and other issues. This migration bred more registered GOP voters, along with an electorate unwilling to vote for Democrats who embodied the policies they fled upon moving to Florida.
The Florida Democrat Party, despite its obliviousness to this reality, remains out of step with where most Florida voters stand. During Crist’s gubernatorial campaign last year, for instance, he talked fondly about Joe Biden and vaccine mandates.
