Ford Recalls

Recent Ford recalls involve windshield wiper failures and rearview camera flaws. More than 1 million Ford vehicles will need to be repaired after being recalled over rearview camera issues.

A total of about 1.7 million cars manufactured by Ford were recalled due to two different rearview camera issues, according to two recall notices from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) published on March 3.

In one recall notice, Ford said the rearview cameras in certain Bronco and Edge vehicles may not display while in reverse gear. In the other notice, some Ford Escape and Explorer, as well as Lincoln Corsair and Aviator, vehicles may display inverted images on their rearview cameras.

In both cases, the vehicles' rearview camera issues may affect the driver's view and ability to see what's behind the car, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford Recall Notices

Is your car included in the Ford recalls? Here's how to check.

The recall applies to certain Ford F-250 and F-350 trucks in the model years 2025-2026, according to a recall notice posted March 3 on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website.

The driveshafts of the recalled vehicles may separate, causing a loss of power while driving, effectively increasing the risk of a crash. If the driveshaft separates, drivers may hear a loud popping noise, according to the recall notice.

The issue can be remedied by having the vehicles inspected and replacing the driveshaft, the recall notice said

Ford recalls 2025-2026

The recall notice about issues displaying the rearview camera applies to 2021-2026 Ford Bronco and 2021-2024 Ford Edge vehicles.

The other recall notice, which has to do with the inverted rearview camera images, applies to the following cars:

  • Ford Escape model years 2020-2022
  • Ford Explorer model years 2020-2024
  • Lincoln Aviator model years 2020-2024
  • Lincoln Corsair model years 2020-2022

What to do when your car has been recalled

For both recalls, Ford said it is working to provide software to repair the rearview camera issues. When the software becomes available, Ford will notify owners via mail to schedule a free repair.

Ford plans to mail Bronco and Edge owners impacted by the recall beginning March 30. For the recall impacting some Ford Escape and Explorer, as well as Lincoln Aviator and Corsair, vehicles, Ford expects to mail notification letters beginning April 17.

In the meantime, Honda recalled over 65K vehicles.

How to check Ford recalls

Both the NHTSA recall database and USA TODAY's recall database for car and motor vehicle recalls are regularly updated with the latest status on vehicles, car parts or car accessories.

To check if your car has been affected, car owners can either search their car's make or model in USA TODAY's recall database or look it up on NHTSA's website.

The NHTSA website also has a feature that allows owners to search recalls directly using their vehicle's license plate number or vehicle identification number (VIN). The site also provides information about recalled car seats, tires and other equipment.

Ford recalls more than 1.7 million vehicles in a sweeping series of safety actions involving rearview camera malfunctions and mechanical concerns, according to notices published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on March 3.

The Ford recalls impact several popular models across multiple years and include problems ranging from cameras that fail to display while reversing to systems that show inverted images. Safety regulators warn that these defects could limit a driver’s ability to see behind the vehicle and increase the risk of a crash.

The automaker says it is working on software updates and other repairs that will be provided to vehicle owners at no cost once solutions are ready.

Rearview Camera Failures Affect Multiple Ford Models

One of the major Ford recalls involves rearview camera systems that may fail to display an image when drivers shift into reverse.

According to the recall notice filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the issue affects:

  • 2021–2026 Ford Bronco
  • 2021–2024 Ford Edge

In these vehicles, the rearview camera may not activate properly, meaning drivers might not see what is directly behind them when backing up. Safety officials say this visibility problem can significantly raise the likelihood of a collision.

More details about the recall can be found through the NHTSA recall system:

Ford Recalls: Inverted Images and Rearview Camera Issues

A second group of Ford recalls addresses a different camera malfunction. In this case, the rearview camera may display an inverted or flipped image, which could confuse drivers when reversing.

Vehicles affected by this recall include:

  • Ford Escape (2020–2022)
  • Ford Explorer (2020–2024)
  • Lincoln Aviator (2020–2024)
  • Lincoln Corsair (2020–2022)

Ford said the defect may distort the driver’s perception of obstacles or objects behind the vehicle, again increasing the risk of accidents.

The company plans to issue software updates to correct the problem once the repair becomes available.

Driveshaft Problem in Super Duty Trucks

Another safety action tied to Ford recalls involves certain 2025–2026 Ford F-250 and F-350 trucks.

According to the NHTSA recall notice, the driveshaft in these trucks may separate while driving, which could cause a sudden loss of power. Drivers may hear a loud popping noise if the issue occurs.

If the driveshaft detaches, it could lead to a dangerous situation on the road. Dealers will inspect the affected trucks and replace the driveshaft if necessary.

What Owners Should Do About Ford Recalls

Ford said it will notify owners by mail once repairs are ready.

Notification timelines include:

  • March 30: Letters expected for owners of recalled Bronco and Edge vehicles
  • April 17: Letters expected for Escape, Explorer, Aviator, and Corsair owners

Repairs will be performed free of charge at authorized dealerships.

Meanwhile, separate recalls are affecting other automakers as well. For example, Honda recently recalled more than 65,000 vehicles over unrelated safety concerns.

How to Check Ford Recalls

Vehicle owners can verify whether their car or truck is part of the Ford recalls by using online recall databases.

Two useful resources include:

Drivers can search using their vehicle make and model, license plate number, or Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). The databases also include information on recalled car seats, tires, and vehicle equipment.

Checking regularly is recommended, since recall notices are updated frequently as new camera issues and safety problems are discovered.
