A georgia shooting at a neighborhood block party in southern Georgia left two people dead and 35 others injured early Sunday, sending victims to hospitals and turning a community gathering into a chaotic crime scene, authorities said.

The gunfire erupted around 1:25 a.m. in Vienna, where Dooly County sheriff's deputies were patrolling when they heard shots ring through the area, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

What began as a late-night gathering quickly became a scene of panic.

Gunfire Erupts on Pine Street

Deputies rushed toward Pine Street after hearing the shots and found multiple people suffering from gunshot wounds, investigators said.

The injured victims were transported to several hospitals in the surrounding area for treatment. Authorities have not yet released information about the severity of their injuries.

The two people who died were found several blocks away from the Pine Street location where investigators believe the shooting began.

Authorities have not explained why the victims were located away from the reported origin of the gunfire or what happened between the shooting and their discovery.

Two Men Killed in Overnight Violence

Dooly County Coroner Brett Walls told CBS News that both people killed were men, ages 20 and 23.

The GBI Medical Examiner's Office is expected to conduct autopsies on both victims, who were pronounced dead at the scene.

Their identities had not been publicly released as of Sunday.

None of the 35 injured victims had been publicly identified either.

Suspect and Motive Remain Unknown

As investigators worked through the aftermath, authorities had not announced a suspect or identified a possible motive.

The circumstances surrounding the gunfire remained unclear, leaving investigators with critical questions about what triggered the violence and whether more than one person was involved.

The GBI said its agents joined the investigation after being requested by the Dooly County Sheriff's Office, which responded to the shooting initially.

The investigation remained "active and ongoing" Sunday, the bureau said.

For now, the trail begins with the gunfire heard shortly after 1:25 a.m. and stretches across the Pine Street area, where investigators are working to reconstruct the moments that turned a neighborhood party into a deadly scene.

Vienna Community Faces Investigation

Vienna, the seat of Dooly County, is located roughly 50 miles south of Macon.

The georgia shooting brought a major law enforcement response to the city as investigators began collecting evidence and working to determine exactly how the violence unfolded.

With two people dead, dozens wounded and no suspect or motive publicly identified, authorities are continuing to piece together the events surrounding the early-morning gunfire.

The GBI urged patience as the investigation continues and additional details are expected to emerge as investigators determine what led to the deadly outbreak of violence.
