After debuting at CES 2025, the Hengbot AI Dog—officially named Sirius—is available for preorder starting Thursday at Hengbot’s official website for $1,299.

The Sirius robot dog stands out not only for its agile, lifelike movement but also for its ability to develop a personality powered by OpenAI integration.

Agile and Entertaining Robotics

While robot dogs like Sony’s Aibo have existed for decades, Hengbot emphasizes Sirius’s speed, agility, and expressive personality.

The robot features 14 axes of motion in its legs and head, along with proprietary “Neurocore” joints that enable it to perform tasks such as dancing to piano music, shaking hands, and even playing soccer—demonstrated in promotional videos.

Sirius’s movement is best suited for flat, indoor surfaces. Hengbot advises against outdoor use or rough terrain.

The battery lasts 40–60 minutes in motion and one to two hours when idle, with a recharge time of about an hour.

AI Personality and Customization

Hengbot’s standout feature is the OpenAI-powered personality engine, which uses network connectivity and voice command processing to teach the dog tricks, interpret commands like “sit” or “act like a cat,” and even develop custom personalities.

“You can customize Sirius to behave like a Corgi, add facial reactions, or upload different voice packs,” Hengbot explains. A "game-like" editor allows users to build their dog’s behavior and expressions interactively.

The Sirius robot can also be paired with a controller or VR headset to play interactive soccer games, showcasing its range of motion and AI integration.

Hengbot AI Dog Designed for Adults

Although interactive and fun, Hengbot emphasizes that Sirius is designed for adults—especially those interested in exploring its creative AI capabilities.

The company confirms that the robot itself does not collect data, but it serves as a reminder of the balance between AI creativity and real-world limitations.

“AI can still make mistakes,” notes a CNET report, referencing past experiences with toys like the ChatGPT-powered Poe bear.

Sirius is also meant to integrate into a broader creative platform, where users can host and share AI projects and customizations.

Legal Backdrop

The launch comes amid ongoing legal tensions between Ziff Davis, CNET’s parent company, and OpenAI.

In April, Ziff Davis filed a lawsuit alleging that OpenAI used copyrighted material to train its AI models—raising questions about how companies like Hengbot are leveraging such tools responsibly.
