On February 23, CNN announced that Rihanna will perform “Lift Me Up” from the upcoming film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever at the 2023 Oscars, following her Super Bowl halftime show performance. Additionally, three other nominated songs will be performed, including “Applause” from Tell It Like a Woman, “Naatu Naatu” from RRR, and “This Is a Life” from Everything Everywhere All at Once. The song “Hold My Hand” from Top Gun: Maverick will not be performed live, as reported by Variety, as Lady Gaga cited her unavailability due to filming the Warner Bros’ DC sequel Joker: Folie à Deux alongside Joaquin Phoenix.

As of now, there is limited information available about the structure and sequence of events for the upcoming ceremony. However, a recent report published in Variety on November 29 revealed that all 23 categories will be featured in the live broadcast for the 2023 awards show. In contrast to the previous year, where certain categories were not aired live and were instead presented in edited highlights, causing controversy among industry professionals. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences CEO, Bill Kramer, confirmed the news and emphasized the Academy’s commitment to showcasing the collaboration and creativity involved in filmmaking. Kramer stated his optimism that the upcoming show would entertain and engage audiences while celebrating all aspects of moviemaking. The 2023 Oscars Nominations announcement can be found on Vogue.
