Police in Nashville, Tennessee, commended rock star Jon Bon Jovi for helping prevent a tragedy of a woman standing on the ledge of a bridge Tuesday.

 Bon Jovi and his team were setting up to film a video on the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge which spans the Cumberland River between downtown Nashville and Nissan Stadium.

Coincidently, in 2014, the bridge was re-named after the celebrated Tennessean editor John Seigenthaler, who prevented a man from jumping off the bridge in the 1950s.

Video on the Ledge

The Metro Nashville Police Department posted a video on X that shows Bon Jovi and his team talking the distressed woman off the ledge.

"It takes all of us to help keep each other safe," Police Chief John Drake said in a brief statement on X.

MNPD released the security video of the interaction. There is no audio.

It shows a woman wearing a blue dress standing on the ledge. She has her arms wrapped around the bridge's railing.

Other people passed her by. 

Bon Jovi and a woman member of his team are then seen walking cautiously to her. 

The musician leans against the railing while the woman accompanying him approaches the distressed woman. She is seen patting the woman gently and holding on to the woman’s forearm.

After about a minute, Bon Jovi walks to the woman's other side, and the pair help her back over the railing onto the pedestrian walkway.

Once safe, the woman and Bon Jovi face each other, and the Grammy-winning singer hugs the woman before the group walks away.

Bon Jovi was filming a music video for his song “The People’s House” on the bridge, which remained open to the public during the shoot

The singer and his wife, Dorothea, are founders of the JBJ Soul Foundation, which routinely helps people in times of crisis from hunger to homelessness. Bon Jovi has had training in how to speak to people during difficult situations. 

The names of the team member and the woman who experienced a moment of crisis have not been released. Out of respect Jon Bon Jovi has declined to release names or give additional details to the media.
