No traveler looks forward to flight cancellations when they have places to be and things to do. Unfortunately, delays and shutdowns of flights can happen for a series of reasons, such as the weather, air traffic control complications, and more.

Across the pond in the United Kingdom, considerable flight delays happened as a result of complications with the National Air Traffic Services’ computer systems.

Here in America, flight cancellations are already racking up, albeit for a very different reason. This time, the issues with travel have to do with the approach of Hurricane Idalia that’s on its way to Florida.

Everything to know about travel delays

So far, the trajectory of Hurricane Idalia indicates its likely arrival in Florida by Wednesday, August 30. Already, various communities in the Sunshine State remain advised to heed evacuation orders and take the necessary steps to protect themselves.

As a precautionary measure, the Tampa International Airport (TPA) shut down on Tuesday, indicating on Instagram that it would only open “when it is safe to do so.”
