First, there was Alexa and now we have CHATgpt and Google’s Bard AI. We will all soon be talking to AI and chatbots are here to stay. The Meta CEO promises futuristic experiences with Instagram are going to be even better soon.

On February 27 Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg shared the new AI product group to be used across the company on Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger. His post claims that a new Meta group with a focus on AI is being created.

“We’re creating a new top-level product group at Meta focused on generative AI to turbocharge our work in this area. We’re starting by pulling together a lot of the teams working on generative AI across the company into one group focused on building delightful experiences around this technology into all of our different products. In the short term, we’ll focus on building creative and expressive tools. Over the longer term, we’ll focus on developing AI personas that can help people in a variety of ways. We’re exploring experiences with text (like chat in WhatsApp and Messenger), with images (like creative Instagram filters and ad formats), and with video and multi-modal experiences. We have a lot of foundational work to do before getting to the really futuristic experiences, but I’m excited about all of the new things we’ll build along the way.”

Based on his statement the AI personas will appear in the “longer term.” 

Meta wants to use individualized AI personas to help its users in a “variety of ways.”  The majority of the 12,000-plus comments to Zuckerberg have been positive.

A slow rollout is probably better for Meta. There has been lots of criticism and confusion with the rollout of Microsoft’s Bing chat and few even know about Google’s Bard AI.

Meanwhile, many of these new innovative tools may appear without fanfare. And the Meta CEO says that these “creative and expressive tools” are currently in development.  Zuckerberg didn’t provide a lot of specifics, but it seems like this toolkit will be similar to the fan-favorite AI profile picture generators and similar apps on Meta.
