The mom accused on boy kidnapping case has stunned a Utah community, as prosecutors allege a mother took justice into her own hands—turning a neighborhood dispute into a criminal case with serious consequences.

According to court records, Shannon Tufuga, 40, has been charged with kidnapping and aggravated child abuse, both second-degree felonies, following an incident involving an 11-year-old boy in Provo.

A Confrontation That Escalated

Authorities say the incident unfolded on Sept. 17, 2025, when Tufuga allegedly approached the boy while he was riding his bicycle through his neighborhood.

An officer with law enforcement in Orem, Bradley Macfarlane, stated in a probable cause affidavit that Tufuga had been actively searching for the child.

“The defendant was driving around looking for (the 11-year-old boy) wanting to confront him about bullying her child,” the statement said.

Prosecutors allege she then forced the boy into her vehicle—an act that transformed a parental grievance into a criminal allegation.

Taken to Apologize

Allegations of Threats and Intimidation

Court documents say Tufuga drove the boy to her home in Provo without the knowledge or consent of his parents, intending to make him apologize to her child.

The boy complied and apologized, but the encounter allegedly did not end there.

According to the complaint, Tufuga threatened that her husband would “beat up” the boy and told him he was “lucky” she had not run over his bicycle with her car—a chilling escalation that prosecutors say deepened the harm.

Afterward, she drove the child back to his home, officials said.
