Political correctness remains an issue of debate. Some people believe that political correctness is appropriate for the sake of not offending others or hurting feelings; meanwhile, there are different folks who oppose political correctness, arguing that it's censorship and harmful to society. Now, a recent Rasmussen Reports poll shows that across the nation, political correctness is collectively unpopular.

What do Americans really think about political correctness?

Earlier this month, Rasmussen Reports revealed that 65% of the country views political correctness as problematic; by contrast, only 22% of Americans stated otherwise. There also remains a strong belief that political correctness ultimately imperils free speech rights. More than seven in ten Republican voters and non-affiliated voters agreed that free speech is threatened by political correctness; however, less than 50% of Democrats said the same. This, yet again, demonstrates the stark divide between the left and the right on another issue. However, it's interesting to see that on the matter of political correctness, non-affiliated voters tend to agree with Republicans. Thoughts about political correctness also somewhat correlate with socioeconomic status. For instance, individuals with more than $200K in annual earnings are generally less worried about political correctness than folks with lower earnings.

Growing culture wars in America

Culture wars in the United States between leftists and conservatives are on the rise. This doesn't just include political correctness either. Republicans and Democrats have clashed on matters dealing with cancel culture, appropriate COVID mandates/restrictions, and more. Furthermore, as time passes, the intersection between culture wars and politics continues to become more apparent. If things persist on their current course, the divides over various cultural issues will continue to surge. With that in mind, the aforementioned Rasmussen Reports poll shares some very important details. It ultimately exposes that most Americans are not on board with political correctness; furthermore, Republicans are not alone in their views on the issue.
