Directed by Jon M. Chu, the PG-rated film explores the pre-Dorothy backstory of Elphaba and Glinda, focusing on their unexpected friendship. Its sequel, Wicked: Part Two, is set to hit theaters in 2025.

Massive Promotions Elevate the Magic

The film’s release was bolstered by an extensive promotional campaign. 

Universal teamed up with over 400 brands, including Starbucks, LEGO, Target, and OPI, to create themed products. New York’s Empire State Building lighting in the witches’ signature pink and green hues. Grande and Erivo even appeared wearing pink and green at the Summer Games in Paris.
