Universal Pictures has put to rest rumors that Ariana Grande was paid more than Cynthia Erivo for their work on the blockbuster musical film Wicked. In a rare statement, the studio confirmed that there was no pay disparity and that both actors were paid equally.

The statement was released to put an end to speculation fueled by social media chatter and unverified reports.

Universal Claims No Pay Disparity

The claims circulated over the weekend, alleged a significant gap in compensation.

Rumors suggested Grande earned $15 million for her role as Glinda the Good, while Erivo received just $1 million for portraying Elphaba, the future Wicked Witch of the West.

A Universal spokesperson swiftly debunked the claims, stating, “Reports of pay disparity between Cynthia and Ariana are completely false and based on internet fodder. The women received equal pay for their work on Wicked.”

While Universal did not disclose the exact salaries, its clarification underscores the studio’s commitment to fairness amidst the $300 million dual-film production.
