Barring a major change of events at the eleventh hour, the 2024 general election will come down to another show of Biden vs. Trump. Americans saw this play out in 2020, with Biden managing to pull off a win. Pivotal to this was then-candidate Biden scooping up states like Georgia, Pennsylvania, and others.

During this year's presidential primaries, Republican and Democratic voters alike had a chance to nominate candidates who aren't named Trump or Biden. Yet, in the end, these two contenders have become the de facto nominees of their parties.

Going back months, all sorts of polls indicated at seven in ten Americans didn't want to see a rematch of the 2020 presidential race this year. With that in mind, one has to ask where these voters were during the primaries.

Quite frankly, this country deserves better than Trump or Biden have to offer.

The case against Trump 2024

The former president currently faces dozens of felonies, which goes against the Republican Party's professed support for law and order. Trump has also called to terminate the Constitution, refused to admit his loss in the 2020 presidential election, and been found liable for sexual assault in his legal case against E. Jean Carroll.

For all these reasons, Trump is beyond unfit to hold the White House again. In fact, if the former president secured a second term, it would undoubtedly be all about his taking personal revenge against folks he believes wronged him. America - and the best interests of this country - would be as far from Trump's mind as the east is from the west.

Like Biden, Trump is also far too old to hold the White House. Quite frankly, this country would benefit from a constitutional amendment barring anyone 70 and up from seeking the Oval Office.

The case against Biden 2024

While in office, Joe Biden has done significant damage to Title IX. He also pulled US troops out of Afghanistan in 2021. Not only did this engender the deaths of 13 US service members, but it also caused the Taliban to regain power, all to the great detriment of Afghan women and girls.

During Biden's presidency, he furthermore attempted to mandate the COVID vaccine and have many US workers fired for refusing the shot. This thankfully failed after Republicans fought Biden all the way to the Supreme Court.

These shouldn't be the only options

During the 2024 primaries, Trump and Biden both refused to debate their opponents. Any candidate seeking the votes of the American people should get on a debate stage, face their opponents, and earn the votes they want.

The current and former presidents are not just too old to lead this country. They've also shown - albeit it in very different ways - that they lack the judgment and fitness for the job.
