Papadopoulos repeatedly tried to set up meetings between the campaign and Russians. As a result, his plea gives fuel to the collusion question even though he is a relatively minor character in all this.

Papadopoulos’ plea deal means that he is has become a cooperating witness for Mueller. He will be able to testify about all the inner workings of the Trump campaign that he was exposed to. Hence, it is reasonable to assume that Papadopoulos’ evidence may touch much larger figures in the Trump campaign and even the family.

Was He Wearing a Wire?

Furthermore, Papadopoulos pled guilty on October 5th, but his charges remained sealed until today. His plea references him as a “proactive cooperator.” It is a bit unclear as to what this means, but one distinct possibility is that Papadopoulos was wearing a wire during the gap here. If this is the case, people closely associated with Trump, even the President himself, should therefore be very worried.
