In three days, President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump are set to debate one another in Atlanta, Georgia. Neither the Democratic incumbent nor his Republican challenger agreed to debate any of their primary rivals, despite multiple calls for them to do so.

During the upcoming event, Biden and Trump will each try to make their case to the American people. They'll undoubtedly take shots at one another, point out each other's perceived flaws, and address some hot-button issues. At the top of the list will be abortion, the economy, and immigration.

Heading into the first debate of the general election cycle, Biden is currently leading Trump among voters under 30 years old by double digits.

Here's where young voters stand on Biden vs. Trump

The poll by CBS News/YouGov shows that 61% of voters younger than 30 favor Biden. Just 38% of this age demographic have thrown their support behind the 45th president. Voters under 30 years old are also likelier than their older counterparts to view climate change, abortion, and racial issues as most effectual to their votes.

Despite the support for Biden amongst this group, just 66% said they'd cast ballots in the November election. This marks a stark contrast from the 94% of Americans 65 years old and up who confirmed they plan to vote.

Just shy of five in ten young people also stated that neither Biden nor Trump has a firm grasp on the matters that are most prioritized by young individuals.

Both sides will have to work on their appeal to young people

Every four years, more Americans will become eligible to vote in our nation's elections. This means Democrats and Republicans both need to keep reaching out to a growing demographic of voters.

So far, polling shows that Democrats are doing better than Republicans amongst younger people, especially young women. However, some Republicans and social conservatives are attempting to make inroads with young men who are slightly more likely than young women to vote red.

The November election will likely stand as a bellwether for which party is most likely to do well with voters under 30 in future political races.
