Earlier today, President Trump made headlines by demonstrating compassion and empathy towards a young child in need. According to reports from Fox News, little Charlie Gard is an adorable British baby boy who is currently afflicted with severe brain damage. Charlie’s parents have been battling the United Kingdom courts to allow their son to remain on life support, but hospital doctors have been given leeway to remove Charlie’s assistance by as early as Friday.

Upon learning of this, President Trump tweeted out the following:

If we can help little #CharlieGard, as per our friends in the U.K. and the Pope, we would be delighted to do so.

Charlie Gard was born in August 2016 and currently has “infantile-onset encephalomyopathic mitochondrial DNA depletion syndrome,” which causes deafness, epilespy, and troubles with brain functions, muscles, and breathing.  In light of these ailments, Charlie’s parents expressed their desire to bring their son to the United States, in the hopes that experimental therapy will improve their son’s health.
