After all the grief that Democrats gave President Donald Trump for four years, there is a sweetness to see the favor being returned to them and former Vice President Joe Biden. Republicans who are on a joint congressional committee to prepare for inaugurations said no to going along with a resolution declaring Biden as the president-elect and Sen. Kamala Harris as the vice president-elect, which blocked it. “The Inaugural Committee fails to pass simple resolution essentially acknowledging Biden as president-elect after all Republicans opposed. Hoyer offered the resolution, which failed 3-3. Other committee members are Pelosi, McConnell, McCarthy, Blunt, and Klobuchar,” Politico correspondent Heather Caygle said on Twitter. “The resolution was very basic, per folks with knowledge. Amy Klobuchar along with Republicans, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, and Sen. Roy Blunt. “Today, at a meeting of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC), Republicans voted to reject a motion offered by House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD-05) that the committee affirm that it is preparing for the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris in coordination with the Biden Presidential Inaugural Committee,” Rep. Steny H. Hoyer said. “Senators Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and Roy Blunt (R-MO) were joined by House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) in blocking the motion, effectively preventing JCCIC from publicly accepting that the upcoming inauguration will be for President-elect Biden,” he said. “Their continued deference to President Trump’s post-election temper tantrums threatens our democracy and undermines faith in our system of elections,” the representative said. “Today is the safe-harbor deadline, and states have now certified their results, confirming that Joe Biden will be the forty-sixth President of the United States and Kamala Harris will be the first woman and first Black and South Asian American to serve as Vice President. It is imperative that JCCIC proceed with plans for their inauguration and coordinate with the Biden Presidential Inaugural Committee,” he said.
