As such, delivery and rideshare motorists remain encouraged to turn off their apps on Valentine’s Day in the hopes that going on strike sends a message. Specifically, Justice For App Workers wants drivers to steer clear of providing any service to airports in the following cities:
- Tampa
- Orlando
- Miami
- Chicago
- Austin
- Newark
- Hartford
- Pittsburgh
- Philadelphia
- Providence
Calling to “shut it down,” the non-profit declared that motorists who wish to engage in the strike should refuse to work from 11am to 1pm on Wednesday.
Will it stick?
Some drivers who feel disgruntled with Uber, Lyft, and DoorDash could very well participate in the strike, thereby cutting back on available service. However, others may be more inclined to pick up riders, given the increased demand for transportation that tends to emerge during holidays.
For what it’s worth, some of these app companies have worked to address concerns raised by drivers. Lyft, for instance, recently announced an uptick in base pay for all motorists, along with financial bonuses for wait times, scheduled rides, and pickups in electric vehicles.
