The impeachment of President Trump is something which members of the Democrat Party have talked about for quite some time. Thus far, they're all talk, no action. Impeachment became a subject of interest shortly after Trump's election; America is now considerably into the primary season of the 2020 presidential election and Trump is still the commander-in-chief.

Last night, Democrat candidates convened in Ohio for the fourth Democrat debate. During this time, they talked about a series of policy matters from guns to abortion to healthcare and much more. Of course, in light of the ongoing impeachment inquiry, left-wing candidates also discussed the prospect of impeaching President Trump.

2020 Democrat Bernie Sanders (and a longtime critic of the president) declared that Democrats have "no choice" but to impeach Donald Trump.

A Closer Review of Sanders' Latest Comments on Impeachment

Bernie Sanders spoke about impeachment after a question from CNN moderator Anderson Cooper during last night's debate. The 2020 Democrat declared that Trump is "corrupt" and accused him of obstructing justice during the controversial Mueller investigation. It's important to note that Robert Mueller himself could not definitively state that the president obstructed justice.

In addition to accusing President Trump of corruption and obstruction of justice, Sanders also levied a series of other accusations against Trump:

"I think that the House will find him worthy of impeachment because of the Emolument Clause. This is a president who is enriching himself while using the Oval Office to do that. That is outrageous! The idea that we have a President of the United States is prepared to hold back national security money from one of our allies in order to get dirt on a presidential candidate is beyond comprehension."

Sanders then concluded his remarks by expressing hope for a "free and fair trial in the Senate."

A Dead End on the Road to Impeachment?

Just yesterday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that House Democrats would not hold on a vote on whether or not to authorize an impeachment inquiry into President Trump. This implies that Democrats do not believe they have the necessary votes in the House.

As for the Senate, it still remains under strong, Republican control; as it stands now, there is zero evidence to indicate that two-thirds of the GOP Senate would vote to impeach Trump.
