Scotland’s decision to move ahead with the Fund to Leave comes after government officials determined that a significant amount of homelessness in the nation stems from women leaving abusive partners.

First Minister of Scotland Humza Yousaf also pointed out the extensive financial problems that women face when they flee domestic violence. Yousaf likewise stressed that the Scottish government remains committed to stopping violence against women and girls.

Eligible Scottish women will be able to receive the aforementioned funding from various Women’s Aid organizations in their communities.

Breaking the cycle of abuse

When perpetrators of domestic violence terrorize their partners, they’re counting on the latter believing they have no recourse but to remain in the relationship. Breaking this cycle is key to ending abuse and giving survivors the new lease on life they deserve.

One can only hope that Scotland’s Fund to Leave will empower women who would otherwise feel pressured to stay in abusive households. The funding provided via this program will give women a chance to get on their feet, seek work, and have a safety net while working to rebuild their lives.
