Earlier today, Majority Whip Steve Scalise returned to the House of Representatives for the first time since he was shot at a June baseball game, as reported by Fox News.

Statements and Reactions

Scalise’s return to Capitol Hill prompted massive applause from his fellow colleagues in Congress. He wore a dark navy suit with a white shirt and striped red tie. Finally, he made his way to the podium and gave remarks about his recovery process:

It starts with God. I just started praying. Pretty much every one of those prayers were answered. He really did deliver for me and my family and it just gives you that renewed faith and understanding that the power of prayer is just something that you cannot underestimate. I’m definitely a living example that miracles really do happen.

Later in Scalise’s speech, he thanked the law enforcement officers who apprehended the shooter that injured him in June. Also, Scalise discussed the importance of miracles and stressed the significance of rising above divisiveness.

Why Was Scalise Away?

Scalise sustained serious injuries from a baseball game shooting on June 14, 2017. The perpetrator of the attack was James Hodgkinson, a left wing, liberal Bernie supporter. The bullet which hit Scalise came from a rifle and punctured both of his hips. As a result of this, Scalise’s blood vessels, bones, and internal organs were seriously injured.
