Data from the Pew Research Center gets even more fascinating upon learning how teens view phones overall. 70% agree these devices are more advantageous than detrimental, with 30% taking the opposing view.

However, teenage boys of all ages, along with older teenage girls, remain less likely than girls 13-14 to view mobile phones as a net negative.

As for the benefits of these devices, 45% of teens agree that phones increase students’ ability to thrive in school. Nearly seven in ten also believe their cell phones can support the pursuit of recreational activities.

A fine line for parents to walk

Just as unmitigated cell phone use can be quite damaging to teenagers, completely depriving them of access to these devices comes with its own set of risks. Ideally, parents of these kids should work to make the most of cell phones’ benefits, while containing their risks.

In a world that’s becoming more infused with technology, some people make the case that phones are now a necessity for both adults and older children.
