Morning rush hour in Manhattan turned into a scene of chaos and fear as a violent Subway stabbing at Grand Central left three people wounded and a suspect fatally shot by police.

Officers Confront Armed Suspect on Platform

According to Jessica Tisch of the New York Police Department, officers were alerted around 9:40 a.m. after a witness flagged them down about a series of stabbings inside Grand Central Terminal.

Responding officers encountered a man armed with a machete who ignored at least 20 commands to drop the weapon. The suspect repeatedly declared that he was “Lucifer,” creating a tense and volatile confrontation.

Police attempted to calm the situation, telling him, “we are going to get you help.” But when the man advanced toward officers with the blade, one officer fired twice, striking him before immediately administering emergency aid.

Suspect Identified, Dies at Hospital

The man was later identified as 44-year-old Anthony Griffin. He was transported to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities said the entire encounter was captured on officers’ body-worn cameras, providing a detailed record of the घटन.

Three Victims Attacked Across Platforms

The violence began earlier that morning, with surveillance footage showing the suspect entering the subway system from Queens.

His first victim, an 84-year-old man, was slashed on the head on the No. 7 train platform at East 42nd Street and Park Avenue.

The attacker then moved like a storm breaking through levels of the station, heading upstairs to the platforms serving the 4, 5, and 6 lines. There, he assaulted a 65-year-old man, fracturing his skull, before slashing a third victim—a woman—in the shoulder.

All three victims were rushed to the hospital and are reported to be in stable condition with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

City Officials Respond as Investigation Continues

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani said on social media that he had been briefed on the incident. Police also released an image of the machete used in the нападение.

Authorities noted that Griffin had three prior arrests but no recorded history as an emotionally disturbed person, known within the department as “EDP.”
