Gov. Abbott will veto any green new deal policy
During a press conference in Odessa, Gov. Abbott made it clear, “Texas is going to protect the oil and gas industry from any type of hostile attack from Washington, D.C.” He added that he will not allow the Biden administration to “kill jobs…across the entire region.
The governor also stated that he also supports legislation prohibiting cities and counties from banning natural gas appliances. “In Texas, we will not let cities use political correctness to dictate what energy source you use,” said Gov. Abbott.
Moreover, he said, “If anybody passes a green new deal type policy in Texas it’ll be met with a governor’s veto and not become law in our state.”
Gov. Abbot’s move comes after President Joe Biden signed a series of executive orders to address climate change including stopping oil and gas leasing on federal lands and waters.
Pres. Biden is implementing bold measure to address climate change
During his remarks on Wednesday, Biden said the worsening climate change is a “maximum threat” and “an existential threat” that must be addressed with a “greater sense of urgency.” He said, “In my view, we’ve already waited too long to deal with this climate crisis and we can’t wait any longer. We see it with our own eyes, we feel it, we know it in our bones, and it’s time to act.”
