“This is another case of kids playing with guns and, unfortunately, something happened and the gun went off,” commented IMPD Capt. Don Weilhammer, underlining the horrifying consequences of a moment of innocent curiosity.
A String of Child-Related Shootings in Indianapolis
The child shot on Indy’s southeast side is unfortunately not an isolated incident. Earlier in the day, an 8-year-old suffered from an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound on the northwest side of the city, followed by another juvenile critically wounded in a shooting on North Tuxedo Street.
All victims were transported to Riley Hospital for Children, turning this day into a grim repetition of similar tragic circumstances.
IMPD Aggravated Assault and Night Watch Detectives Respond
IMPD’s aggravated assault and Night Watch detectives have responded to the scene of the child shot on Indy’s southeast side.
They are currently piecing together the circumstances that led to this unfortunate event. No further information has been released as of yet.
