In a dazzling power play that jolted the mobile gaming arena, Tripledot Studios announced Thursday it will acquire AppLovin’s entire mobile games studio portfolio for a jaw-dropping $800 million, a move poised to vault the British game developer from fast-rising upstart to global heavyweight.

The deal—struck with surgical precision—will be paid half in cash and half in equity, transforming AppLovin into a minority shareholder in Tripledot. Behind the scenes, Latham & Watkins LLP advised Tripledot, while Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati PC stood by AppLovin’s side.

From Challenger to Champion: Tripledot’s Global Ambitions

“Our mission is to become the world's most successful mobile game studio,” said Tripledot CEO Lior Shiff. “Acquiring AppLovin’s games portfolio is a big step toward achieving that goal — taking us from being a high-performing challenger to a true global leader.”

The acquisition will supercharge Tripledot’s scale, giving it control of 10 game studios behind household titles like Wordscapes, Project Makeover, and Game of War. The company's workforce will swell to 2,500 employees across 23 cities, putting it toe-to-toe with the industry’s top players.

AppLovin, based in Palo Alto, had quietly spent the last seven years acquiring game studios to fuel its ad-targeting machine learning algorithms. But deep down, its heart was never in game development.

“We’ve never been a game developer at heart,” admitted AppLovin CEO Adam Foroughi. “Lior and his team are some of the best operators in the business and give me incredible confidence they are the right partner to help these studios thrive going forward.”

Tripledot, founded in 2017, has made waves with addictive titles like Woodoku and Solitaire.com, rapidly climbing the charts. With 25 million daily active users and nearly $2 billion in annual gross revenue, it’s already one of the five largest independent mobile game developers worldwide. This acquisition doesn’t just add games to the arsenal—it catapults Tripledot into a new league.

The acquisition provides more than just hit titles. It diversifies Tripledot’s portfolio and spreads risk, ensuring no single game will make up more than 10% of total revenue. The company is betting big on in-app purchases and ad-based monetization as twin engines of future growth.
