The timing of AFFH’s removal is far from coincidental though, with November rapidly approaching. For both President Trump and candidate Joe Biden, the ultimate goal is to garner support from undecided voters, particularly in suburban America. One way of doing this is developing a cohesive plan for housing reform.
While Trump has sought to repeal AFFH, Biden has proposed removing suburban zoning, which has “… been strategically used to keep people of color and low-income families out of certain communities.” In addition, the Biden campaign proposes an expansion of section 8 housing vouchers as well as enacting laws to prevent discrimination against holders of vouchers.
Countering the proposal, Trump has warned the plan will “destroy” American suburban communities.
